Meet the Staff

Cynthia Lazarus
Cindy may not claim arts and crafts as her favorite past-time, but as a child she was thrilled to just have the chance to go to camp. Now, as CEO of Flying Horse Farms, watch her tackle the strategic challenges of building and opening this jewel of a camp just as she tackles each of her marathons. Yep, she's one of those crazy runners...just don't ask her to tie-dye her own t-shirt for the next run.
Cindy is the CEO of Flying Horse Farms where she is responsible for the overall coordination, direction and leadership of the camp in realizing its mission and goals. Before joining Flying Horse Farms, Cindy was recently CEO and President of YWCA Columbus, the historic institution that serves as a focal point for providing inspiration, education and services designed to eliminate racism and empower women. Before her service at the YWCA she served for ten years as a judge on the Tenth District Court of Appeals and ten years as a member of Columbus City Council. For three of those years she became only the second woman in the history of the city of Columbus to serve as City Council President. To read Cindy's complete bio click here.
She is married to Stuart and they have one child, Franny, a senior in college. They live in the Beechwold area of Clintonville.

W. Patrick Smith, MA
Don't think you can come to a Flying Horse Farms meeting and not make your own name tag - on a hand-carved wood horseshoe by Patrick. He'll also provide you the beads, paints, and rope to bring personality to those letters and excitement to the room. He's camp director for a reason (no one is more eager for it to open than Patrick) and on his days off, look for him in the Archery range. Yep, we'll have one of those too.
W. Patrick Smith is our Camp Director. He has worked in the outdoor experiential and summer camping industry for 18+ years as counselor, facilitator, trainer and Program Director. His passion is helping others achieve success in giving children experiences that are not only fun but provide pertinent skills to life and development. He shares his passion for camp with his wife, Jenny, and their dog, Sierra. patrick@flyinghorsefarms.org

Teresa Setnar, RN, BSN, CPN
Raised in Indiana and a veteran camper with the Girl Scouts, Teresa's anchor memories of camp was a perfect balance of sweets and creeks: smores and intertubing. Now, after more than 20 years of being a practicing pediatric nurse, Teresa is going to marry these two previously distinct parts of her life in being the Director of Nursing and Medical Programming for Flying Horse Farms.
She comes to the camp with a list of titles too far to mention, but suffice to say, being the current President of the Ohio Chapter of the Society of Pediatric Nurses is among the most notable volunteer roles she has. A former staffer at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Theresa's first week on the job was to participate in Flying Horse Ride, not something a nurse would have expected as training! She will be overseeing the highly critical medical procedures, staffing and care that our campers will be getting while at camp. That is, after dropping off three teens at various activities and driving through the nearest Starbucks.

Nicholas J. Miesen, CFRE
At camp, when Nick was closing up his boat for the day, you'd never know if he was out fishing or racing. Camp was and will continue to be a place for Nick to explore his quietly competitive side. In the meantime, we'll benefit from that polite persistence in his attracting needed funds for our camp and ongoing programs.
Nick Miesen is our Director of Leadership Giving. When he was in college, he spent two summers working as a counselor at Camp Boggy Creek, A Hole in the Wall Camp located in Florida. In 2007, Nick joined Flying Horse Farms and has been working tirelessly to make our camp a reality by helping to educate others about our mission and cultivate relationships throughout the Midwest. Nick is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CRFE). nick@flyinghorsefarms.org

Regan Walsh
Star gazing from the dock, hiking the trails and singing songs around the campfire remain Regan's favorite camp experiences as a kid. In high school, she enjoyed working as a server in the dining hall. She couldn't wait to greet the campers at each meal, excited to hear kids giggling over the adventures they had throughout the day.
Regan is our Director of Marketing and Communication, where she'll touch anything that you see is printed, emailed, advertised--including our newsletter, web site and supporting collateral for campers and families. Her dedication for her work and the camp is contagious, it will be hard not to feel it when you work with her. In her spare time, however, you might want to stand clear. She's got a mean left roundhouse (she studies Thai kickboxing for fun). regan@flyinghorsefarms.org
Alison Emery
A self-proclaimed canoeing master (and a badge to prove it), dance aficionado and star-gazing smore-eating fan, our Director of Annual Giving & Special Events might have been raised at a camp.
Alison Emery joined Flying Horse Farms after a celebrated time at Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation where she held a similar role. She'll be responsible for the myriad of details on our event schedule and supporting our development efforts by overseeing the annual appeals. alison@flyinghorsefarms.org

Lisa Baird Panos
Stay out of Lisa's wake; she's one fancy water skier. As a veteran camper, Lisa still secretly wants summers off to go to camp. Instead, we're thrilled she's a part of our team helping the development team to raise money. Her water skis may not be of use right now but her organizational skills are getting a workout.
Lisa Panos works as our Development Associate to support the Development team in fundraising for the camp. She is a graduate of The Ohio State University and had been a copywriter/editor and a college English teacher for 14 years. lisa@flyinghorsefarms.org

Liz Lewis
We may have found our song leader in Liz Lewis, who, when at camp loved most to practice her singing and dancing for skits! As a mom of two young children, we suspect we'll be hearing them sing camp songs often too!
Liz calls her basecamp Cleveland where she'll head our development efforts for Northeast Ohio. A veteran fundraiser, Liz is also familiar with health-related causes, most recently with the MedWish Foundation and also the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She'll be working closely with our Columbus-based staff to help reach out, educate and recognize our special friends and donors.

Jeff Stuttler
It's a good thing Jeff loved camp as a kid. Because as our Facility Manager, he'll be living and breathing it every day. While his activities at Flying Horse Farms might involve some fishing, singing around the camp fire and riding horses, you'll be more inclined to see him making sure all of those things are possible for our campers.
Jeff will actually live on the campus outside of Mt. Gilead as the full time caretaker. With over 20 years experience managing a 1500 acre community, we know he's the right man for the job. We suspect that in a few years the garden he used to tend to at his house also in Mt. Gilead may re-appear at the camp. When not tending to cucumbers, corn, potatoes and watermelon, he's on his motorcycle enjoying the countryside. jeff@flyinghorsefarms.org

Cathy Sarrocco
As our database guru (aka. Development Assistant), Cathy is the keeper of all information on campers, volunteers and donors. However, her secret ambition swings to the other side of the brain as her dream is to teach kids art - perhaps at the camp when it opens!
The camp welcomed Cathy to the team in summer 2009. Cathy has a degree in business management and spent 12 years at the Ohio Health Foundation and loves kids. She lives in Dublin with her Airedale, Delanie, and proudly boasts that her son-in-law is currently with the Army in Afghanistan. cathy@flyinghorsefarms.org

Amy Reinhart
On her first visit to the camp's construction site - with the machinery humming and workers hard at work - it was all Amy could do not to jump out, hug a tree and roll up her sleeves to help move things along. Raised on a farm, she feels as though she's home.
Our Executive Assistant, Amy Reinhart, has more than 30 years of experience supporting passionate and motivated people with a lot on their plates. She retired from the University of Illinois in 2007 and, most recently, served as product development manager at her sister\'s greeting card publishing company. Amy feels honored to be a Flying Horse Farms team member, where she facilitates the daily activities and functions of the organization. amy@flyinghorsefarms.org
Donna Dorsten
Donna Dorsten has a way of connecting with people. The minute you meet her you feel like you're part of her family. It's one of the reasons Flying Horse Farms is thrilled she's on the team. She's an incredibly active volunteer in her home county, the same one where the camp is being built.
As the business manager, Donna is responsible for keeping things in order financially. Keeping the books, overseeing payroll and benefits, interfacting with the accountants and preparing reports for the board. If she was a camper today, we'd probably see her cast a line, pitch a tent, swim a few laps, and even water ski. But since we have a lot of folks in the office that love to do those things, we'll keep Donna focused on the books. She's the only one that loves those numbers!
