Program/Experience

Flying Horse Farms is a camp for children with serious illnesses. It's a place where these children find freedom, relief, friendship, comfort and laughter.

Children who attend Flying Horse Farms experience camp like an ordinary child. For one magical week, they step outside of their sickness to experience activities such as canoeing, swimming, horseback-riding, arts & crafts, and singing songs around a fire.

They stay in a cabin with other campers and eat their meals in the mess hall.

They stay up late singing songs and whispering secrets.

And if they should need any sort of medical care or treatment, they go to the health center to be treated by the on-site professional medical staff.

The children who attend Flying Horse Farms return home transformed. They discover new talents and interests, and form friendships.

They remember what it is like to be a child and forget what it is like to be a patient.

The camp is located in Mt. Gilead on 200 acres. The campus will have 29 buildings including the following:

  • The Big Red Barn — this will be the entrance to the camp welcoming all who enter.
  • The Dining Hall & Activity Center — the busiest building at camp will be the gathering place for fun and celebration as campers come here hungry to eat and eager to tell each other about their daily adventures.
  • Equestrian Center — the horse complex will provide so many campers with the most unforgettable camp experiences with arena and trail riding.
  • Health Center — this important building allows camp to be a reality for children with serious illnesses. It will provide 24-hour care by specialized doctors and nurses.
  • Amphitheater — this will be the gathering place for the entire camp to sing songs, roast marshmallows around the campfire and come together at the end of a long day.
  • Angie's Arts & Crafts Center — designed as a creative outlet for the campers, this will help them develop new skills and make artistic memories for themselves that will be cherished for years to come.
  • Boating & Fishing Harbor — Campers will have the opportunity to fish and paddleboat over acres of open water.
  • Rec Center — this is the place where champions are made! Campers become sports heroes and fans as they learn about teamwork and cooperation.
